PZO: As a band, what do you think
your best qualities are?
Jess: Best qualities...we write good music.
PZO: Good answer.
PZO: This past Friday you started the tour with
Guns n Roses, is it how you expected it to be?
Jess: Uh..we've only done two-one show, so we're still trying to figure
it out. So far it's not been any different than what we expected, but
I'm sure something will pop up.
PZO: Every time you go into the studio you learn
something new; what were a couple of things you picked up this time around
while recording?
Jess: Uh..I don't know. That pro-tools isn't nearly what it's cut out
to be. I think that was about it. Nothing really amazingly new, just little
things.
PZO: What song would you not mind hearing again on the radio?
Jess: What song would I not mind hearing again on the radio. I'd say something
from Queens of the Stone Age.
PZO: What's your favorite line from one of your
songs?
Jess: Uh...favorite line from one of our songs. Uh.."[I'm on the
loose with my] neck in the noose but hey I enjoy the intense" from
[Escape From] Hellview. Everybody seems to think that line is about suburban
alienation; which makes me laugh every time I hear it.
PZO: What was one thing your mom always got
on your case about that annoyed you?
Jess: Uh...<laughs> everytime Bam and I had a camera in hand.
That's until we started making money and then she just kind of loved it.
PZO: Totally supports it?
Jess: Oh, absolutely.
PZO: What event on your life had the greatest
impact on you?
Jess: Probably the day I met Deron Miller.
PZO: What kind of impression do you like to
leave with people?
Jess: Kind of impression...I don't try to leave a specific impression
with anybody I'm just
what it is.
PZO: How's the album doing?
Jess: Uh..it's doing pretty well. A solid number each week, which is really
good.
PZO: Yeah, it's pretty great. I like it.
Jess: Thank you.
PZO: What is the worst advice you've ever been
given?
Jess: Worst advice...don't play music I think.
PZO: Who told you that?
Jess: Probably some random idiot. We get that every once and awhile.
PZO: <laughs> That sucks.
Jess: Ah, you live with it. It's the way it goes.
PZO: Yeah, that makes you want to put out more records, huh?
Jess: Absolutely.
PZO: What is the most misunderstood lyric in
one of your songs?
Jess: That .."[I'm on the loose with my] neck in the noose but hey
I enjoy the intense." Everybody thinks it's about suburban alienation
and it's not. <laughs> It's about a horror movie.
PZO: Is there anything else you want to do as
a band before the year is over?
Jess: We pretty much...probably hit more radio. That would probably be
the next goal for the year, the last one.
PZO: What do you have in your pockets right
now?
Jess: In my pockets right now..my wallet, some cash, and my tour laminate.
PZO: What's your best childhood memory?
Jess: Childhood memory. There's really not one specific memory. I had
fun. I spent most of my fun playing drumsin the basement. In a moldy,
mildew, gross basement.
PZO: What is one thing you usually hear from
fans about your shows?
Jess: They loved it. Basically, the favorite comment is "There was
so much energy on stage." We get that almost every night.
PZO: What is the best lesson you have ever learned?
Jess: If it's hot, don't touch it.
PZO: <laughs>
PZO: What was the last meaningful thing you
did?
Jess: Meaningful thing that I did. <silence><laughs>
Now you have to go and ask the tough questions.
PZO: <laughs>
Jess: Last meaningful thing I did...
PZO: Makes you think, doesn't it?
Jess: <laughs> Yeah. Well, define your idea of meaningful.
PZO: Well, what's meaningful to you?
Jess: Good answer. Uh...I don't know. I can't think of anything specific.
Uh...
PZO: Maybe something you did recently that got stuck in your head and
now you're thinking how you're glad you did that.
Jess: Uh...hanging out every once and awhile with my girlfriend and my
mom.
I try to do something meaningfuleverytime I am with them. I guess that'd
be it. <laughs>
PZO: What does Thanksgiving mean to you?
Jess: Good food.
PZO: Any special traditions/rituals?
Jess: Not this year. We're going to Canada, so no rituals. We're still
on tour, we have Albany on the 28th and on the 30th we'll be in Toronto,
so Thanksgiving day will be spent driving to Toronto.
PZO: What is the worst Christmas present you've
ever received?
Jess: I can't say any of them are bad. I mean everybody complains about
getting socks and underwear.
PZO: Mhmm.
Jess: Shit, I need that stuff.
<laughter>
Jess: Anything is fine. If somebody gave me a can of spam or anything
like that I'm sure that would be a pretty crappy gift, but I've never
gotten anything like that. <laughs> But Vern has. Vern got
a can of spam for Christmas.
PZO: From who?
Jess: <To Vern> Who'd you get that from? His friend's mom.
<laughter>
PZO: What a bummer.
Jess: That's hilarious.
PZO: What question comes up in almost every
interview, that you are tired of being asked?
Jess: "So how do you think Jackass has improved your career?"
PZO: That's the main one?
Jess: That's the main one.
